About Tomo's Art

Thomas “Tomo” Overment is an English multidisciplinary artist from Bath, working under the name Tomo. Creating since childhood, he has always been drawn to image-making as a way of exploring ideas, perception, and meaning. At the age of eight he won a competition for a pro-recycling poster, an early sign of the visual instinct and creative drive that would continue to shape his work.

Over the years, Tomo has developed his practice across a wide range of creative disciplines. He has worked as a silk-screener, sign-maker, and on major film productions including Prince of Persia and Nanny McPhee and the Big Bang, contributing on set within greens and props. These experiences built a strong understanding of materials, surface, composition, practical problem-solving, and visual impact.

His work is rooted in metaphor, symbolism, and the way ideas form in the human mind. Tomo is especially interested in how two separate inputs can combine to create an entirely new thought, image, or meaning. Drawing on a long-standing interest in human behaviour and psychology, he creates work that is intended not only to be seen, but to be felt and interpreted on multiple levels.

Working organically and intuitively, Tomo explores the canvas in real time, allowing the piece to emerge through process rather than rigid planning. He can spray paint freehand without grids or projection aids, relying instead on instinct, control, and experience. His practice moves fluidly between acrylic painting, paint pens, spray paint, and graphic design, always searching for a fresh twist in progression.

Tomo also carries a creative lineage connected to both Charles Darwin and the Wedgwood pottery family — a heritage that reflects observation, experimentation, craft, and curiosity. Through Tomozart, he continues to build an evolving body of work that merges traditional art, visual storytelling, and contemporary creative thinking.
